A simpler alternative to designing cookie cutters in Fusion 360
Fusion 360 is a powerful CAD program, and many makers design cookie cutters in it. But if all you want is a cutter in the shape of a picture, the CAD workflow is a lot of work for a single object.
What designing a cutter in Fusion 360 involves
- Importing the image and calibrating its scale.
- Tracing the outline into a sketch with splines, often point by point.
- Offsetting the outline for the wall and the flange.
- Extruding each layer and shaping the cutting edge.
- Exporting an STL and checking it for errors.
Complex shapes can take an hour or more, and you need to know the tool.
The image-to-STL alternative
CookieCut automates those steps. You upload an image, adjust the outline with Add and Remove, choose a width and download the STL, 3MF or STEP file. The wall thickness, flange and tapered edge are already tuned for FDM printing, so a typical cutter takes minutes.
When CAD is still the better choice
Use CAD when you need unusual geometry: interior details such as stamped patterns, custom handles, or parts that must fit another object. For a classic single-outline cutter, a generator is usually faster.
